On May 2016 the Vernon Silver Star Quilt Guild celebrated their 30th anniversary and, in preparation for this celebration, in the Fall of 2015, a challenge was set. In view of the fact that pearls are used to mark 30th anniversaries, the challenge was to include pearls and circles. The circles to represent the friendship of quilting.
QuArtz, as a fiber art group, wished to push this challenge a little further and it was decided that we would work on a progressive quilt and each month a new instruction together with a demo, if appropriate, would be given for a feature or item to be included in our pieces. In order, these were: 1) Create a background which would include one ugly piece of fabric. Cut this background in 2, turn one piece around and sew the two pieces back together. 2) Attach tiles using the Gloria Loughman technique as it appears in her book Luminous Landscapes. 3) Add circles 4) Make fabric beads and add them to the piece. Also add pearls. 5) Make it shine - add bling 6) Add a head and arms. 7) Make one edge wonky 8) Finish the piece off. |
