QuArtz, Canada
where quilting meets art

We are QuArtz, a group of about 20 women who are solidly rooted in the Quilting experience. QuArtz (QUilting ARTZ) is a sub group of Vernon Silver Star Quilters. We formed about eight years ago with the common desire to further explore fiber and textile arts, and push the boundaries of traditional quilting.

Our artistic backgrounds and experiences differ greatly, but we have the credo of acceptance, encouragement and exploration. We have varied interests resulting in diverse and interesting projects.

We learn from each other in the form of member led workshops, both hands on and informative. Our group has visited venues such as art galleries and community locations for inspiration and education. We have enjoyed lectures by Dr. Sharon McCoubray of the University of British Columbia to further our understanding of the principles and elements of art.

One of our goals is to increase our public exposure. We displayed our art quilts at the Vernon Silver Star Guild Show in 2013, and had those same quilts published in "Canadian Quilter", a national publication of the Canadian Quilter's Association. In 2015 we displayed our work at Art Walk in Lake Country. We also display  our work at Gallery Vertigo's Fiber Art show each February in Vernon.
